The Association of VA Surgeons Foundation is pleased to announce the AVAS Foundation Resident Research Award. This grant is available to a surgical resident mentored by members of the Association of VA Surgeons with at least a 3/8ths VA appointment. Research proposals in clinical outcomes, health services research, education research, and basic science or translational research that emphasize minimally invasive innovations, patient safety, process improvement, medical education, technological innovation will be considered.
The application deadline is Dec. 7th of the current academic year.
The award is $25,000 for one year.
The application mentor must be an AVAS member to qualify.

Application Instructions
The application will consist of one pdf file, assembled by the applicant, with the following items in order with each item starting on a new page:
- Project Summary (~1 page, no more than 400 words)
- Research plan (5 page limit)
- Bibliography (no page limit)
- Facilities and Resources (1 page limit)
- Proposed Budget (1 page limit)
- NIH Style Biosketches
- Letter of Support from Mentor (1-2 pages)1. Letter of Support from Department Chair
